This is a Welsh Dragon done in pixel art to join the Chinese Dragon that I posted on 18 May 2017. It was much easier to do than the last portrait that I drew although this one also had a few 'see through' gaps within the body. There were not as many and this picture is much smaller at 84x56, maybe only 3,000 red pixels. There is one more dragon in a single color that I will be drawing but will now go back to the stained glass patterns and do Panel #40.

I got into Mountain Home, got everything taken care of and got out again without being reported to ASPCA (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) or PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals). It was a close thing however. When I got back to the Park and plugged into electricity my A/C kicked on immediately and ran for over 30 minutes before cycling off with thermostat set at 80.

I think the temperature was at about 80 in Mountain Home when we left there, maybe 84 when I plugged into electric and up to 87 within that 30 minutes that the A/C was trying to catch up. The high yesterday was 104.5° with an expected NEARLY THE SAME 105 forecast for today. I sure hope the weather guessers are not teasing with those 98 and 97 forecast starting on Sunday. Even the locals are complaining!

We started the day with our walk of course then took off for Mountain Home. First stop was Albertsons where I got everything I wanted except sardines without skin and bones. Arrived for my dental appointment about 50 minutes early to fill out paperwork and hoped that there would be a cancellation and I would get taken early. That is just what happened. If that had not happened I would have been running the generator and A/C for Patches.

Went from the dentist (which billed me a VERY good price for the cleaning) to the parking lot that I used previously for the Manhattan Café. A half block from there was a jewelry store that replaces watch batteries which I hoped was my problem with a stopped watch. I left the watch with them and went for breakfast. When I returned I had a working watch once again and we were on our way back to Glenns Ferry.

I think I will dial it back now and take it easy, that is too much activity all in one day.

THE LEFT’S WAR ON THE FIRST AMENDMENT by Daniel Greenfield is a recommended read. I quote only a teaser.

Once upon a time there was a liberal media. Like most left-leaning institutions it worked hard to prove its progressive premises. Democrats were good and Republicans bad. The police and the military were bad. Social welfare spending and diplomacy were good. Israel was bad and the PLO was good. This was the thing we used to nostalgically call media bias.
We aren’t dealing with a liberal media anymore, but an illiberal media. The liberal media was content to use its institutional power as a megaphone to broadcast its views. But you could debate those views. Actual conservatives were allowed to write columns, and not just as a strategic attack on some element of the GOP the way it is now, and appear on television to offer opinions, and not just as punching bags. The liberal media was convinced it would win the argument because it was right.
The illiberal media isn’t interested in winning an argument, but in silencing the opposition. It doesn’t just want to shout louder than you. It wants to use its institutional power to shut you up.

One of my walking routes takes us past the Lansing Trade Group Glenns Ferry main line UP elevator. This elevator is made up of six large metal grain bins that I found out this morning are full. The elevator here is called a primary elevator that receives grain from the fields for temporary storage.

What I saw this morning were trucks being loaded from the elevator and was able to talk to a driver that spoke better English and the was not so much noise. They are trucking that grain to the Lansing Trade Group mill location at Buhl,ID.

This is Panel 40 which is almost identical to #39 but uses ellipse around the concave diamonds rather than circles. I only had to find the measurements for the ellipse and diamond shapes that made it look 'right'. All the x,y coordinates that were used for #39 were used again and then to make it look different I reversed all the colors.

I'll now tackle the Type 7 pentagonal drawings. The single tile has some rather complex rules and at first glance the primitive unit which contains 8 tiles looks like it is going to difficult to put together. I think they are all going to get harder to do as I move on thru Type 15.

I worked on that Type 7 yesterday afternoon for a few hours and had repeated failures, much like what I was going through with Type 6. This morning I think I have made some progress but it is a little too soon to tell. The only thing that do know is I can not draw this one using 4 - 120° angles.

The Spammers were busy yesterday, I captured 12 of them in my Junk folder with none showing up in my Inbox. The new filter is working very, very well. I do still get an occasional Spam that wants to make my web site #1 when you do a Google search or design a web page for my customers. Those usually are one time hits but I add their ISP addresses to my filter anyway.

I spent a lot of time yesterday trying to draw the pentagonal Type 7 single tile. I think my problem is in HTML Canvas and I am expecting too much exactness.

To do the drawings I am using the HTML5 Canvas arc() method which does a lot of computations to arrive at the x,y coordinates where I want a vertex. After doing 4 of the angles my coding does not bring me back to the starting vertex, it is off by 3 or 4 pixels. That sounds like it should be close enough but it is noticeable. There is a work around that I have found which looks fine with a single tile but I am afraid that when I try to do the tiling I'm going to have gaping problems. We will see.

The only other thing that I have done this morning is whip up a pot of chili in my Thermal Cooker. I'll be telling you about it tomorrow after I have tried some of it for 'linner'. This is some more culinary experimentation that I have been putting off for some time, now seemed to be a good time. I'm getting tired of fish every day.

Immigration Only Works in a Free Economy by Michael J. Hurd is another good posting. He is writing in support of Trump’s RAISE act but admits that will not be enough to fix the immigration problems that the United States has.

Nobel-prize winning economist Milton Freidman said it best: “It’s just obvious you can’t have free immigration and a welfare state.”
The Trump presidency arose not as a call for racism, but as a reaction to the symptoms of the welfare state, which has grown way beyond the boundaries that even its original architects probably ever intended. Welfare and regulation in the United States have gone the way of the Roman Empire and other once prosperous societies that ultimately failed. Welfare and political regulation/cronyism have become big business. Sooner or later, either welfare or business will have to go. We can’t have both. It’s not sustainable.

Yesterday I wrote about Spammers and my success with a new filter. These are common email Spam. I am also getting some Referrer spam (also known as referral spam, log spam or referrer bombing) visits to my web site. The technique involves making repeated web site visits using a fake referrer URL to the site the spammer wishes to advertise. Those that I have identified as probably being Referrer Spam have all come from China.

About that chili experiment. It was not bad but it is different, a good way to increase the amount of fiber in your diet and Patches loved licking the can. The ingredients: #1 Jimmy Dean sausage, large can pinto beans, large can pumpkin puree, 28 gr (or however much you like) Baker's Unsweetened Chocolate, jalapaño and powdered cayenne as desired. Served with vegetables, big salad and corn tortillas.

I tried mixing some of it with my usual breakfast concoction and - I like it. Another experiment that failed to yield the wanted results but like Post-it® provided something better. I may be changing my breakfast formula.

leftpic rightpic This is a Type 7 Pentagonal tile and Primitive Unit. This is the second type that Kershner found with Type #8 looking to be even more difficult than this one. On the left is a single tile with the angles and sides identified. The single tile took me a long time to draw with most of that time trying to find the correct angles to match the rules. Using 120° satisfies the angle rules but the 4 sides could not be equal. The 8-tile unit was also difficult and I had my doubts that I could take this primitive unit as drawn, as shown here, to do a tiling.

There are a couple small gaps in this unit drawing that I thought would cause bigger gaps when I start to draw a tiling. As I was doing the tiling I had to do a tweak to make it fit better and also found an adjustment that corrected the gap. Those changes now make the drawing mathematically incorrect but it looks like it should. I think I'll have the tiling finished today and posted tomorrow.

I received another Amazon purchase yesterday which arrived a day earlier than I expected. This was a small Vorado tower fan to provide me some air circulation when the A/C is blowing as well as when it it is off. It is probably what you would consider to be a desk fan and is good for the size of Desperado. I was hoping that it would provide some added comfort for these continuing very hot days and nights. It passed the test yesterday afternoon and early evening!

This is a Type 7 Pentagonal tiling that looks better than I anticipated. It was also easier done that I thought it would be, perhaps I am learning something as I do more of these. It did require a bit of honing to get a good fit but I think it turned out looking fine, a few small imperfections but still fine.

Tuesday morning when I went into Mountain Home the Snake River valley was filled with smoke. It has cleared somewhat but I still see a lot of haze and can smell smoke early in the morning when we go for our walk. I am reasonably sure it is from the Lava Flow fire that was reported August 2, 2017, approximately seven miles south of Atomic City, Idaho. The last report I checked showed 22, 651 acres burned. I love the accuracy of these reports when they can not even get to the fire on the ground, fighting it with aircraft only.

Caution: Sarcasm in use.The forecast for today is 99° which if it happens will be the first day under 100 since 28 July. During those 8 days there were 3 that were over 107° so I am really looking forward to the next 8 days which the experts think will all be less than 100 with 2 of them down all the way to 95.

You hear a lot about the canary in the coal mine, well here is a flock of them.
1)Retail store closures have tripled so far this year, with 8,600 stores projected to close in total in 2017. This far surpasses the previous record of 6,163 stores in 2008 at the onset of the credit crisis.
2)Total U.S. household debt is now higher than in was in 2008, just before the credit crisis.
3)U.S. home ownership rates have collapsed since 2007. More households are renting than at any time in the past 50 years.
They all point to a decline in the economy but what the Ministry of Propaganda and the Wizard behind the curtain do not want you to know is they all point to WAR.

Only WAR will distract the 'deplorables' of this country from the economic crash and accompanying pain that the flock of canaries are indicating is forthcoming. Perhaps the trade war provisions in The Countering America’s Adversaries Through Sanctions Act will ratchet up the threat of a shooting war enough to keep the 'deplorables' distracted but I don't think so. Maybe Senator McCain's, the prisoner of war hero, 'plan' for Afghanistan will escalate that 17 year old shooting war enough - but it needs to be a really, really BIG plan. I think the 'deplorables' are so over Afghanistan.

"All of this psychotic political behavior screams for the rise of a new party, or more than one new party, composed of men and women who have not lost their minds. I’m sure they’re out there. Plenty of traces on the Internet attest to the existence of a higher and better political consciousness in this country. It just hasn’t found a way to congeal. Yet." - James Howard Kunstler, Russiatosis

A recognizable landmark even when done in only a size of 71x113 pixels. This was an easy drawing to do because of the size, the symmetry and not too many 'see through' places in the solid black.

Yesterday afternoon when we went for our walk I could see almost none of the hills on either side of the Snake River valley. The smoke was heavier than last Tuesday but this was being blown in from the northwest. From British Columbia where there are 123 fires, 23 'fires of note', burning in their worst fire season since 1958. The smoke is really bad in Washington as reported by my former left side neighbors and the parents of the Park owner

Finally, we got a day where the high temperature was below 100 at 97.5°. The other good news it the weather guessers think it is going to stay below 100 until next Saturday and Sunday. I am starting to look at the forecast at my next camp location and find that the highs there are being forecast to be about 4 to 8° less than here. Not a big difference but both places should be cooling down as we move into September.

Nothing much happening. I have almost finished stained glass Panel #41 and have been drawing a very easy, very small pixel art piece which I could finish the same day. That might be today but certainly by tomorrow. Then it will be time to try pentagonal Type 8. There is also my latest H. G. Wells book; making progress but still much remaining.

Whoa! What is this? The weather gurus have forecast the high temperature for 16 August to be 88°. If I use the Bliss, ID Weather Underground reporting station's history, which was the closest one to me when I got here, then yesterday was the first and only day that the high has been less than 90. We are however under an Air Quality Alert because of the smoke that has now created a partial eclipse.

This is Panel 41 which was not too difficult as a line drawing but coloring made it more so. I got some more practice doing gradient coloring which I think looks pretty good but I'm still not satisfied. I'm also not sure that I know what I am doing with a lot of trial and error and experimentation.

"This reveals a basic failing of empires—the assumption that they’ll force other nations to cave in to their threats. The opposite is in fact true. Once everyone is trapped in the madhouse together, the moment the violence is finally triggered, all the inmates reach for their weapons. And what happens after that is anybody’s guess." - The Madhouse by Jeff Thomas

"Educated men and men of ideas are more necessary to a popular political movement than to any other political process. A monarchy learns by ruling, and an oligarchy of any type has the education of affairs; but the common man, the peasant or toiler, has no experience in large matters, and can exist politically only through the services, devotion, and guidance of educated men." -H. G. Wells, The Outline of History

I had this thought. I know that is dangerous but it happens from time to time. We all know that the Establishment/Deep State want President Trump gone. There is no doubt about that, they admit it and the Ministry of Propaganda report it every day, all day. The thought I had was what is going to happen when he is gone? Is the United States suddenly going to re-adopt former President Obama policies? What is the 'plan' for when he is gone? Is Vice president Pence going follow the Establishment's orders? If not does he have to go also? I need to hear from someone what the 'plan' is when President trump has been removed from office.

The Type 8 single tile drawing was done rather easily. It is much like the Type 7. However, the Type 8 primitive unit with 8 tiles has been driving me crazy. I looked for a way to do it like I did the Type 7 which was two groups of 4 that then pieced together. Could not see anyway to do that with the Type 8. I'm trying to write code that will draw all 8 of the tiles fitted together when only one x,y coordinate is given. I think I will get there but it is a challenge.

I drew each of the 8 tiles twice yesterday, some of them more than twice. I think I left most of them drawn correctly last night but they are scattered all over the Canvas. Today I re-draw those that need it again and try to bring them all together to form the unit. The intent is still to write code that will do it with only one x,y coordinate as the driving force - all lines will be generated using that one coordinate. That is not so very important for the unit drawing but it makes the tiling SO much easier.

Shopping day in Glenns Ferry with breakfast at the Oregon Trail Derail Café. I got a veggie omelet that covered half the platter and a mound of hash browns that covered the other half. Note: All the restaurants in Pocatello, Mountain Home and Glenns Ferry that I have been to offer a menu that I call mid-American; meat, potatoes and white bread.

Today was shelf stocking day at the Southside Market but I got almost everything I wanted. I had to wait for them to find and unpack the pinto beans and they had some very sorry looking Roma tomatoes but there was a box not yet put up. The same thing could not be said for the green bell peppers and I gave the old shriveled up ones a pass and substituted jalapeño. Their tortilla offerings come in the large size and the gigantic size. I did not need the large but wanted some tortillas so now have a two week supply.

When I left the Park this morning there was a car parked in a spot that I usually pull into that gives me almost a straight back-up into my space. It was still there when I returned and I got into the small limbs of the tree before getting in a position to back into my space. Next week if the car is there I think I will try something different. Whatever I try can not be any harder than what I did this morning.

I had this almost complete a couple days ago before I got involved with the Type 8 pentagonal. It only took a few minutes to finish it then some time to get it saved as a .png file, transferred to My Google Drive from the Toshiba, transferred from Drive using sFTP on Chromebook/Chrome and typing up this bit of background. I like the border on this pixel art which was easily done and I may use it on other pieces. It was quickly done because of its 97x37 size and I was also able to do some bucket fill of color.

A couple days ago while on our afternoon walk I stopped at the nearby John Deere dealer and asked about some equipment that I have not seen before. It was a new, to me, self -propelled Forage Harvester. The one that I was asking about had a corn harvester 'head' on the 8000 Series tractor.

Then yesterday I stopped at the Lansing gain elevator weigh station and asked about the grain bin capacity. Each of their bins holds 84,000 bushels so when they are all full that is just over 500,000 bushels. They weigh the trucks as they come in loaded and then again after they have dropped off the wheat from the field to determine the weight of the wheat and then divide by 60 to get the number of bushels. That means that the elevator holds a bit over 15,000 tons of wheat when full. Using a wheat spot price that I looked up yesterday the value of grain held in the full elevator would be about $2,350,000.

That is your agriculture lessons for the day boys and girls! Now back to the regular scheduled programs.

The past two days I have been fighting Canvas and have lost. I think I have an 8 tile primitive unit using Type 8 tile but the proof of the pudding will be when I try to do the tiling. I found multiple ways that Canvas will not put the tiles together as a unit using only one x,y coordinate to draw all the lines. I have managed to get it done but not mathematically, I think what I was trying to do gets distorted by rounding in Canvas OR perhaps it is in the Chrome browser. Maybe have something to show in a posting tomorrow.

Both of these men have the quote attributed to them and perhaps they both said it. They were both right, those of us living now get to witness the suicide.

I have been putting off the holding tank dump and taking on fresh water. I considered doing it when I returned from shopping but by the time I got backed into my space I had done enough for the day. But the water pump was giving me signals yesterday that the fresh water tank was getting low so I did fill that tank. Still holding off on doing the dumps.

leftpic rightpic This is the Type 8 Pentagonal tile and Primitive Unit, the later being what gave me the most trouble. The Unit on the right looks good but when I started the tiling I found some small errors that required some 'adjustments' for the tiling to look good. This is why every effort needs to be made to get the Unit as close to perfect as possible and drawn from one x,y coordinate. This allows for adjustments in the tiling that would be VERY difficult if multiply x,y coordinates are used. This is the third, and last, type that Kershner found. The next one that I am going to draw will be Type 10 which was found in the #9 position of chronological discoveries but the mathematicians that type these things designated it a Type 10. Don't ask, I don't have a clue.

The high temperatures have gone down somewhat and the humidity has gone up. Our walk yesterday afternoon was sweat drenched - that is me, Patches does not sweat. When I checked my next camp location I found that the temperature was only about 5° cooler but the humidity was almost 10 less, down slightly below 20% which is my level of tolerance when it is hot.

"There’s a real chance that Trump will start a war somewhere, but it won’t be because he wants one. Other people in Washington do though. Just about all of them, given that 99% vote on Russia sanctions. It is time to support your president, America. Not because you like him, or because you agree with him. But because your country elected him and because if you don’t, god help you." - Raúl Ilargi Meijer, It’s Time To Support Your President, America

Two different presidents, two different times in history, two different countries being threaten by those presidents and two completely different media coverage.

"North Korea best not make any more threats to the United States. They will be met with the fire and fury like the world has never seen." - Donald J Trump

Even my senator, the prisoner of war hero, got in a bitch slap. He is all for bringing 'fire and fury' to North Korea he just does not think President Trump will do it.

This is the Type 8 Pentagonal tileing which used the Units that I showed yesterday. I decided to show the pattern using only one color. It looks good using the color scheme as shown in the Unit drawing but I feel that it is even more striking with the solid color. Can you imagine a floor done with this pentagonal, either ceramic or wood?

I have started another pixel art as well as stained glass panel #42. The panel is going to be a bit harder to draw than the past 3 have been. Getting the measurements right will be the hard part.

I threw almost everything in my Junk folder to Trash yesterday. There were 104 messages that had gone to Junk since 25 July with the vast majority of them being Spam that were caught by my new filter. There are some legitimate messages that also get caught up by the filter but I check Junk every time that I check the Inbox so I can read those as well.

I'll not be doing much today. We have increased our afternoon walks to about one mile since the high temperatures have been below 100. With the forecast for today and tomorrow both to be 100 we will do shorter walks. It is a rare day that the high temperature is less than the forecast.

I put off the holding tanks dumps as long as I could. The intent was to dump them on Sunday but I was notified via my shower drain backing up that the time had arrived yesterday at about 7:00pm. The timing was good with some cloud cover and a good breeze blowing so it was comparatively cool.

A couple of things that I have done to get ready for my next move. Prepared the 3x5 route card with planned gas station stop and breakfast stop. I'm reasonable sure of those stops and the route is rather straight forward so the card was probably not necessary but it is what I do. Not so much move preparation but I did make up another batch of my breakfast meals this morning.

That is about it. There is a chance that I will finish reading the latest Wells book today. When I say finish that will be the main text of the book, there will still be 2,000 Kindle locations of footnotes (over 500 of them) that I want to read through also. Will not finish the pixel art but will get some more of it drawn. Still thinking about Panel 42.

I generally like what Ann Coulter has to say but she sometimes gets fast and loose with facts. She did that in her latest weekly column Trump Got Your Tongue, Media? although it was a poke in the eye to the Establishment as always.

I have quoted the statement that includes the misstatement of fact and provide a correction. The poem, "The New Colossus", that she refers to was written by Emma Lazarus and donated in 1883 to the "Art Loan Fund Exhibition in Aid of the Bartholdi Pedestal Fund for the Statue of Liberty" to raise money for the pedestal's construction. It was engraved on a bronze plaque and mounted inside the pedestal's lower level in 1903. The Scotch-taped quip I'm sure was meant to be that poke in the eye that she is known for because Scotch tape was not invented until 1925.

However that may be, guest workers have absolutely nothing to do with the RAISE Act, which, as Miller heroically tried to explain to clueless reporters, concerns only green-card holders, i.e., lawful permanent residents -- not guest workers, not illegal aliens and not a poem Scotch-taped onto Lady Liberty in 1903.

The News, all the News is about the White Nationalists in Charlottesville. The Lame Stream Media got it wrong when they first announced who the perpetrator had been but that has become part of all these stories.

The narrative must now be formed that ties the guy arrested to the White Nationalist and to President Trump. He is already being criticized for not calling this a crime of domestic terrorism. The former president Barack could avoid calling Islamic terrorist by that name but President Trump is required to use the term 'domestic terrorist' when talking about the attack. DUH

I also note that there have not been any demands made that automobile must be registered - wait, that is already required. Nor have there been any demands that automobile owners must be licensed to drive them - wait, that is also required. How about banning automobiles? Or, at the very least require background checks on potential buyers of automobiles? Or, maybe a government buy back program like what was done in Australia? There certainly is no 'right to bear an automobile' provision in the US Constitution so automobile control should be so much easier that gun control.

"President Trump may go down in history as the ultimate implementation of the old legend, “The Emperor Has No Clothes.” He has single-handedly exposed the overwhelmingly biased media, the feckless government bureaucracy, the hopelessly insulated career politicians and all the others who think they are important and relevant do-gooders as the toxic and destructive phony parasites they really are. He has shown how none of them have any clothes, and never really did.

I worked on Panel 42 for 3-4 hours yesterday and made some progress but not a lot considering how much I got drawn and how much remains. This is going to be one of those that I said would be more difficult when I looked at what remained on the web page I'm using for a guide. Took a break from it and did some pixel art work after 'linner'.

Our afternoon walk yesterday was done with a cloud cover, winds of 2-5 mph and the temperature 88° and falling while we were out there. Haven't had an afternoon this nice since 6 August and there have been only a few that have been below 90 when we were out. The weather guessers believe the high temperature today will be 81° - I'll believe it when I see it.

What we did see was some rain that cut our morning walk short. I heard it start around 3:00am but by 5:30 it sounded like it was just water dripping from the tree so out we went. A very light sprinkle that could have gone either way but it went they way of becoming more of a rain versus stopping.

I then had to wait until near 7:00 before going to the Oregon Trail Derail Café for breakfast again. Got the same thing as last week but I think the waitress was also the cook this morning and she made a better omelet. Then a last shopping excursion at Southside Market and back into my space at the Park soon after 8:00.

Got started on housecleaning not long after that. I don't know how much of my usual routine will get done today but I have made a start. I do want to have it all done before Wednesday morning but that is the only time schedule.

Well over 100 years later and the "foreign office method of policy" continues to be the way nations relate to each other.

We went out yesterday afternoon and did almost a 3 mile walk in the coolest afternoon temperatures that we have had since being here. The humidity was up near 40% so I was dripping sweat but with an off and on wind it was not too bad. We will not be doing that again with the forecast back in the lower 90s the next couple of days.

leftpic I have copied only part of a very long customer review which said what I would have plus he added a lot, lot more. There are a number of different editions available but the one I read was the original published in 1920. Therefor the history stops with the League of Nations which Wells fully supported but President Wilson disappointed him. Wilson was not the first. Wells was disappointed by a lot of the 'names' in history; he really put down Alexander The Great and Napoleon among others.

I don't think it has ever been impressed upon me before but every Empire that has been established has collapsed. Wells was very much in favor of a One World Empire but I'm not sure that he could see that it would collapse also. I wish I had been given this book when I was starting Junior High School so it could have had more of an impact. Read it and if there is a young person in your life give them a copy!

The Outline of History is the best and most underrated book by H. G. Wells, the father of science fiction, world history, and universal history, much better than all his scientific romances combined since it is actually a true story. Like the epic myths and metaphysics of the past, Mr. Wells’ History of the World is a supremely well written universal history and one of the first world history texts ever written. It tells the epic adventure of the history of the world, life, and mankind according to the sciences of astronomy, biology, geology, anthropology, and world history. This is the modern scientific worldview expounded by Wells in the early twentieth century. As one of the greatest English writers in history, Wells shows great insight into the changes and meanings of world history, adding plenty of colorful descriptions and analogies to explain complex processes as well as many witty satirical commentaries to explain the folly and genius of so-called great men. Naturally, the book is biased in its Wellsian polemics, materialism, evolutionism, scientism and socialism, but it tries and largely succeeds in remaining objective, historical, and scientific throughout, even with the unavoidable errors, oversimplifications, and omissions common in such large works. - Part of Customer Review at goodreads.com

I made some significant progress on Panel 42 yesterday but back to slow going. I drew only a little bit on the pixel art but at the rate the two drawings are going the pixel art will be finished first.

Today was laundry day once again which I got started as soon as we finished our morning walk. I got most of my housecleaning done yesterday while it was cool. Today I finish that up by washing cab windows so Patches can slobber all over her side during the drive to our next camp. She will get to my window also when I stop for breakfast.

I thought this Liverpool Logo was another dragon until I looked it up online. It is a stylized liver bird the symbol of the English city of Liverpool. The use of a bird to represent the city dates to the medieval era, but the idea that the "liver bird" is a mythical creature specific to Liverpool evolved in the 20th century. It is associated mostly with the Liverpool Football Club. The wings were the hardest part of this small (63x76 pixels) drawing. This is the last of the single color dragons and dragon look alikes although I have a couple more drawings in a single color to do.

I have not been able to buy any no skin no bones sardines for my potato patties so bought some tuna last Monday. This morning I made up a batch of patties and will see how I like one of them for 'linner' today.

We set a new record for our fastest 5K this morning. I think that was a result of Patches not stopping for as many pauses although she stopped for a lot of them. Even with her we still do a 5K in what is considered better than average time although that is not the goal for either of us.

In this article the number of people that are registered to vote that exceed the number that are alive in a county or state are called 'ghost voters'.

Here are some of the ghost voter totals in what were considered battleground states in 2016; Colorado: 159,373 - Florida: 100,782 - Iowa: 31,077 - Michigan: 225,235 - New Hampshire: 8,211 - North Carolina: 189,721 - Virginia: 89,979.
"President Donald J. Trump’s supporters might be intrigued to learn that Hillary Clinton’s margins of victory in Colorado and New Hampshire were lower than the numbers of ghost voters in those states. Clinton’s fans should know that Trump won Michigan and North Carolina by fewer ballots than ghost voters in those states." Deroy Murdock, Ghost voters are haunting America

It was a long day and there are some things I want to say about what I saw on the route but I'll not say it today. I don't like doing days like today that was 338 miles but you do what you have to do. The route: Bannock St, Frontage Rd/Old US30, Jackson St, Old US30, ID51, NV225, Interstate 80 (121 miles), Winnemucca Blvd & Rim Rock RD.no pic

I will say that my string of road construction stops remains unbroken since leaving Tyron, NM. Today I had to stop twice on ID51. The first was at another Snake River bridge that had one of those portable traffic lights that had 3 of us wait for 3-5 minutes. The second stop was about 10 minutes while a pilot car led 3 vehicles to us and the one other car and myself got piloted back to the south.

I was away from Glenns Ferry at 6:30 but then had a Desperado fuel stop in Mountain Home. A breakfast stop at the Manhattan Café and then a tire pressure check just a few blocks from there. The rear dualies have looked low ever since I had Big O rotate the tires back in April but I finally did something about them. There were a little low but not as bad as they looked. That had us leaving Mountain Home at almost 8:30 with a lot a miles to drive.

This is Panel 42 which was much more difficult than the prior 3-4 or panel that I have drawn. I did not get the measurement relationships quite the same as shown but close enough for the pair of panels to look pretty good. Looking ahead at those panels that remain on this page at Free Stained Glass there are others that are going to be even harder. I'll go on to pentagonal #10 then come back and do Panel #43.

Jim Quinn has got it exactly right in his posting. If every Confederate statue in the entire United States were taken down tomorrow the Alt-left would find some other issue to use for provocation. They want a war and they are going to get one even if it takes years.

"This Confederate monument narrative is designed by the left to provoke a backlash from whites who are tired of being scorned, ridiculed, belittled and called racists, rednecks and deplorables by so called open minded progressives. It’s working. The cold race war is beginning to turn hot. The president has no intention of trying to bring the two sides together because it’s impossible at this point. That’s how Fourth Turnings roll. The mood of the country will continue to darken. Reactions to these types of events will intensify. More blood will be shed. It’s too bad these functional illiterates didn’t pay attention in history class or ever read a book. They are going to learn some harsh lessons over the next decade." - Jim Quinn, Functional Illiterates Trying To Erase History

I have wanted to see Duck Valley and Owyhee for many years but never wanted to see them so bad that I was willing to drive way out of my way to do it. Yesterday I was able to plan a route that took me to and through them.

I think the best way to drive this route would be from south to north because you would see Wild Horse Reservoir first. This is a man-made lake in Elko County, Nevada that was initially created in 1937 by the construction of Wild Horse Dam. It is startling to come upon this body of water after seeing all that northern Nevada has to offer - miles and miles of range and basin, range and basin.

In 1969, a new concrete single-angle arch dam was constructed by the Bureau of Reclamation for the Bureau of Indian Affairs with a height of 87 feet (27 m) and a length of 458 feet (140 m) at its crest. The original 1937 dam was left in place and is still partly visible. That may be true most of the time but yesterday it was totally submerged with the lake almost over the top of the 1969 dam.

The very scenic part of the route was along the Owyhee River from the dam to Mountain City. Do not let the city part of the name fool you, it has very few services available from what I could see driving through. The Indian Reservation headquarters are in Owyhee which is almost 100 miles from Mountain Home or 100 miles from Elko. It did not appear to offer much for tourist either although they must have some stores. I can not imagine living in that area in the winter, it has to be brutal. My guess is that there are days, maybe weeks, that people that do live there can not get out because of the snow.

The rest of the route was mostly buckaroo country - grass and sage. This buckaroo country covers most of northern Nevada, southeastern Oregon, southwestern Idaho and the part of Idaho south of the Snake River. Some of the most sparsely settled areas in the continental United States - real fly over country where deplorables live.

"What is taking place in the media accounts and political commentaries on this event is an effort by the left to turn the mayhem in Charlottesville into a template for their war against a mythical enemy – “white supremacy” – which is really a war on white people generally. The ideology that drives the left and divides our country is “identity politics” – the idea that the world consists of two groups – “people of color” who are guiltless and oppressed, and white people who are guilty and oppressors. This is the real race war." - David Horowitz, The Real Race War

Want to add this note about what was probably a Hesston loaf stacker working in a field in the Duck Valley. I had never seen the equipment that created stacks of hay that look like huge bread loaves. I have see the loaves in the past but never knew how they were made. This equipment has been obsolete for probably 20 years since the new balers came on the scene that make the big rectangular bales and the huge round bales.

The smoke has followed me down from Idaho. The Winnemucca valley was full of it this morning with the mountains to the east and west no longer visible. It has not settled down to the Park level and I don't smell any smoke but the wind from the north is bringing it in.

The high temperatures have been in the mid-90s and are forecast to stay there for another few days then cooling(?) to the lower-90s and maybe even high 80s. But I do love the morning walks. The forecast lows are for the mid-50s but yesterday and this morning were both 48° which happened about the time we were out there.

leftpic rightpic This Type 10 Pentagonal was probably the easiest one that I have drawn since Type 1. I don't understand why it took so long to be found. I have colored it using the scheme shown on Wikipedia and will probably retain that color scheme when I draw the tiling. That should be relatively easy with all the 90 and 45°angles involved - Canvas handles those angles well. I'll have the tiling done in a day or two but want to do more work on my latest pixel art drawing. It is just starting to look like something rather than a bunch of black on a white background.

I have also stumbled up a great resource for color selection also. In the past I have been using web site Color Shades at december.com which has been good. However, for my pixel art the colors are given using DMC codes and Dollfus-Mieg & Compagnie (DMC) has set the standard for thread/yarn colors. What I found was a web page that provides the HEX codes that correspond to the DMC code so I will no longer have to guess what colors I should be using.

I am not a believer that history repeats but do think that we may have entered a period that rhymes. Do you remember the campaign slogan that Hillary was using during the 2016 campaign - Forward! Does that rhyme with Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution that followed the Great Leap Forward.

Are we now moving Forward with the Great Transforming Cultural Revolution that was started in the 1960s, lost its mojo but was revived by former president Barack? Do we not see widespread factional struggles in all walks of life? Do the Antifa and Black Lives Matter groups not rhyme with Red Guards? During that previous Cultural Revolution people suffered a wide range of abuses including public humiliation, arbitrary imprisonment, torture, hard labor, sustained harassment, seizure of property and sometimes execution. Historical relics and artifacts were destroyed. I have added emphasis where I believe there is a current rhyme or perhaps echo may be a better term.

Yes, I think I hear an echo. The KPD (Kommunistische Partei Deutschlands - German Communist Party ) was a major rival to the Nazi Party during the years 1919 - 1933 as the two parties fought for national power. The Reichstag Fire was blamed on the KPD, the Enabling Act was passed and KPD leaders were among the first people to be put into the newly created Dachau concentration camp. So the Nazi Party was fascist and the KPD Party was Anti-fascist or in the vernacular of 2017 - Antifa. Yes, I hear an echo.

We had winds from the west which is the usual wind flow and it blew most of the smoke that come in from the north or northeast the night before. Weather Underground is having web problems so it is difficult to get reports from them the past few days. I may give up on them if they do not get it fixed soon.

The same thing with Arbuckles. The last time I ordered from them they had a new web page that had me confused and it took 2-3 tries to get my order accepted. Then when I got it I had whole beans rather than ground and thought it was my fault. It was my fault but it was also the fault of Arbuckles because when I went to order some more yesterday I found that they had no option for anything other than whole beans. I sent them a couple scathing emails and received a reply "...disturbing discovery. I am working on this and will follow up with you. I apologize for the inconvenience." It is an inconvenience for me but it is very sad that they had to have me point out the "disturbing discovery". I think the company is having problems.

Grocery shopping day and a bit of scouting around the town. I first went to Flying J and asked if they had a truck wash and was directed to a car wash in town that the Park office had tried to provide me with directions. The fellow at Flying J at least knew the name of the place and I had driven by it on the way to ask if they had a truck wash. I'll see if I can get the bug accumulation off of Desperado the next trip into town.

Breakfast was then had at Model T Casino where I was able to get corned beef hash and poached eggs for the first time in months. It was priced well but is a very noisy environment and the service is slow and inattentive. The grocery expedition was at Khoury's Market Place which is a good size local market that had almost everything that I wanted. The produce girl had a very limited understanding of English but that was in keeping with the extensive Hispanic foods section that they have.

"Imperialism in the United States, as in every other modern country, is built not upon politics, but upon industry. The struggle between empires has shifted, in recent years, from the political and the military to the economic field. The old imperialism was based on military conquest and political domination. The new "financial" imperialism is based on economic opportunities and advantages. Under this new régime, territorial domination is subordinated to business profit…
There is thus a drastic limitation on the exploitation of undeveloped countries, just as there is a limitation on the exploitation of domestic labor. In both cases the people as consumers can buy back less in value than the exploiters have to sell. Obviously the time must come when all the undeveloped sections of the world have been exploited to the limit. Then surplus will go a-begging." - Scott Nearing, The American Empire

I will not be fighting any crowds to see the eclipse. The show will start here at about 9:00am and last for a couple hours with about 90% of the sun covered at it maximum. I'll take a look out there and see how it is doing and then maybe sit in Desperado's driver seat for the finale.

rightpic This Type 10 Pentagonal tiling was as easy to do as I had guessed it would be. What made it easy was the angles that I selected for the individual tile. Like for the Type 1 I took the easy way out and went for 90°angles when I could although the rules for this Type gave me those. The 135° angles are just a multiple of the 90s and made all the drawing and tiling simple. Next will be Type 9 which will not be so simple. In fact I don't think I will have any of the remaining six type that will be easy to draw or to tile.

"Revolution comes—fiercely, impetuously—uprooting institutions, overthrowing traditions, tearing customs from their resting places. All is uncertainty—chaos, when, lo! a man on horseback gathers the loose strands together saying, "Good people, I know, follow me!"...
The man on horseback rises in his stirrups—speaking in mighty accents his message of hope and cheer, reassuring, promising, encouraging, inspiring all who come within the sound of his voice. His is the one assurance in a wilderness of uncertainty. What wonder that the people follow where he leads and beckons!" - Scott Nearing, The American Empire

"I believe in the American ideal, and that’s why I don’t live there. The good news is that, today, the American ideal is very much alive—it just doesn’t happen to live in the US." - Jeff Thomas, The American Ideal

This book by Scott Nearing was published in 1921 while he was still active in the Socialist Party. There are almost no reviews of the book but H. G. Wells would have praised it I'm sure. A partial review from Amazon said "The first 90% of this book is an accurate if heavy handed account of America from it's founding to the end of world war one. The last 10% of the book is a polemic against Capitalism and a hymn in the praise of World Communism." Nearing left the Socialist Party and tried to join the Workers (Communist) Party in 1924 but was rejected and had to remain a 'fellow traveler' until accepted in 1927. He was a strong supporter of the Communist for the rest of his life although not a Party member.

I didn't see much change in the sunlight here at this location because of the eclipse. Maybe I was expecting too much but the experts claimed that it would be 90% coverage here. Oh well, maybe I'll remember where I was and can answer the question "Where were you during the first total eclipse of the 21st Century?"

The weather guessers think that today and tomorrow will be below 90 but the rest of the 10 Day Forecast is mid to lower 90s. The morning are great however so we do 3 miles then while it is cool and only a mile in the afternoon. Not bad.

A bit of running around and a bit of waiting around in town this morning. First on the agenda was get some of the bugs washed off the front of Desperado. Went to 6th Street Car & Truck wash which can be found easier by looking for the PDQ sign which is what the guy at Flying J said was the name. I got the majority of them wash off but she still needs a good bath.

Next was to have breakfast at Chihuahua's Grill at 7:30 but the sign out front said they open at 9:00 except on Friday and Saturday at 7:00. What you find on the internet is unreliable at best. I find that the hours, if shown for businesses, are correct about half the time. So, I had a veggie omelet at Sid's. They cater to the tourist trade somewhat but there were a couple Sheriff cars there so I knew that the food was probably pretty good.

I then went to a barber shop that I expected to open at 9:00 so sat and read until a few minutes before. Went to the shop and saw that they opened at 8:00 although the Closed sign was still up in the window. Then only a few blocks away was the Sewing Nest where I went to drop off my lap desk. The pillow on the bottom has worn through in 2-3 places and I have been looking for someone to fix it for the past 6 months or more. It has seen continuous duty for 7 years so I am happy with it and when fixed will last at least another 7.

Rex Beach is probably known, if he is at all, for his 'he man' of the North novels with Alaska as the backdrop. He spent 5 years there during the Klondike Gold Rush and after not getting rich started writing. This book published in 1914 has nothing to do with 'he men'. However, the sales of it and a 1917 American silent drama film starring Rubye De Remer that he produced provided him with greater earning that he ever got looking for gold. I found no reviews for this book and have started reading all that are available at Gutenberg just for entertainment. All the non-fiction that I have been reading required some light reading. Some of H. G. Wells books are good for that but many of his are heavy.

I got started on Panel #43 yesterday but made very little progress. Failed repeatedly to draw the Bézier curves that are needed. Gave up after and hour or two and started the last single color pixel art that I have found at Ann's Cross-Stitch Patterns. I did a search for 2 color patterns and have found some that are about the same complexity as the single color. I'll do some of those before trying those that are more involved.

Got my Arbuckles coffee order yesterday and it was ground rather than whole beans. I followed their instructions on the Home Page to add a note about what grind I wanted but when I completed the order the note was not shown anyplace so I did not know if I would get ground coffee or not. I do not like their new and improved online order form provided by Shopify.

I added water to the fresh water tank a few days ago and have been watching the shower floor closely for evidence that the gray water tank was full. Didn't see any water this morning but thought it was time so got that chore taken care of while it was cool rather later today when it is hot.

I am hoping that my lap desk has been repaired and I will go pick it up this afternoon. If that happens I'll also do my weekly shopping although that will require running the generator and A/C for Patches. The alternative is make another trip tomorrow morning while it is cool.

"Will New York impose a virulent political correctness–read “submission”–on the whole country? My guess is that it will. But conceivably not. "That kicker is named T-r-u-m-p. This modern Balaam, riding the ass of the Deep State into wickedness, must be stopped, perhaps at all costs... On his way to the oval office last fall, Trump prophesied that the stock markets represented “one big, fat, ugly bubble.” ... More recently, though, the wicked Trump changed his tune and declared that the tower of stock market exaltation was his own doing, setting himself up for the revenge of the grand viziers.
Since nothing else has worked so far to dislodge Trump from the White House, a tumbling tower of stocks might seal his fate. The tower has to fall anyway, lest the moiling masses of flyover America think about besetting Wall Street with pitchforks and torches. A controlled demolition might be just the thing to appease these suffering holders of three part-time jobs (if they are so lucky) who have stood by in wonder and nausea while a tiny fraction of the elite gather unto themselves all the dwindling riches of the realm — at least in paper securities denominated in US dollars — while the wicked Trump will be left to the jackals of the Deep State, to be torn apart with the 25thAmenedment." - James Howard Kunstler, Controlled Demolition

I got an email from the Sewing Nest not long after I posted to this web site yesterday. My lap desk was ready! The owner signed her name which I don't think either of us gave each other when I dropped off the lap desk. I saw right away that she was either Russian or Bulgarian and guessed Russian. We had a good chat about my time in Bulgaria and how she came to this country 8 years ago. If you need any alterations done and are in Winnemucca, NV take them to the Sewing Nest!

I have downloaded a couple of PDF files for a couple of books that I could only find in that format. In the past I have had very little success in getting them converted to a MOBI format that I could them read using my Paperwhite. This was when I was using Firefox on Windows.

This morning I tried again with Chrome on Chromebook by adding and extension for CloudCovert. Tried to convert one of them and received a MOBI file that is pretty good from a quick look at it. There is one issue that I have found that is a distraction but not too bad. I'll give it a try and see how it goes but at first glance it is better than what I get from archive.org.

leftpic This is a very short book that covers all the same points that H. G. Wells did in his book Mankind In The Making. It has been hot every day since I arrived here but stayed below 100 - until yesterday. The mornings have been wonderful however with lows in the upper 40s to lower 50s. The forecast high for today and tomorrow are both 100 which is probably low so I'm expecting something over that mark. The rest of the 10 Day forecast is for some cooling but no day under 90.

"Donald Trump is America’s first wartime president in the Culture War. During wartime, things like “dignity” and “collegiality” simply aren’t the most essential qualities one looks for in their warriors. Ulysses Grant was a drunk whose behavior in peacetime might well have seen him drummed out of the Army for conduct unbecoming. Had Abraham Lincoln applied the peacetime rules of propriety and booted Grant, the Democrats might well still be holding their slaves today. Lincoln rightly recognized that, “I cannot spare this man. He fights.”
Trump is fighting. And what’s particularly delicious is that, like Patton standing over the battlefield as his tanks obliterated Rommel’s, he’s shouting, “You magnificent bastards, I read your book!” That is just the icing on the cake, but it’s wonderful to see that not only is Trump fighting, he’s defeating the Left using their own tactics." - Evan Sayet, He Fights

"We've created a generation of people like this: anger addicts who can't read past the first page of a book. This is why the howls of outrage from within the ranks of the news media about Trump's election ring a little bit false. What the hell did we expect would happen? Who did we think would rise to prominence in our rage-filled, hyper-stimulated media environment? Sensitive geniuses?
We spent years selling the lowest common denominator. Now the lowest common denominator is president. How can it be anything but self-deception to pretend this is an innocent coincidence? - Matt Taibbi, The Media Is the Villain – for Creating a World Dumb Enough for Trump

I did make some progress on the pentagonal Type 9 Unit yesterday but still have half remaining. I do not like what I have done so far but it is the best I can do for now. I strongly suspect that when I try to tile the Units I'm going to have gaps.

I have had it pretty good. There are 5 spaces around me where I consider neighbors could be. There was one space filled behind me to the left that was there for maybe 5 days and until yesterday I have had no other neighbors. Now I have a huge triple axle 5th wheel trailer on my left side that I suspect will be here when I leave. So far so good but there are three rug rats that look to be ages 3, 4 and 5 that could make hell on earth for me. We will see.

I was right about the high temperature yesterday it was 102° but that has not caused the weather guessers to revise their 100 prediction for today. They may even be right because there was some cloud cover blown in last night which should hold down the temperature a little.

"Just as Republicans have the power to enact the agenda they’ve pledged in toto, so too do they now own the federal government, in toto. It’s no longer Obamacare. It’s GOPcare. It’s no longer crazy liberal Democratic spending. It’s crazy liberal Republican spending. It’s no longer socialist Democratic Party taxation, it’s socialist Republican Party taxation. All the legislation authorizing all these programs, all the graft, all the waste, all the obscenity, all the immorality, and where Planned Parenthood is concerned, all the killing — all of it is now formally authored by the Republican Party.
Come the Congressional elections next year, and the presidential election in 2020, the Grand Old Party will once again bellow its hallowed promises. But this time it won’t work. This time there will be no straw men to blame. This time their voters will know those hallowed promises are not even hollow promises. They are lies. We are watching the GOP systematically committing suicide." - Brent Bozell, The Slow Death of the Republican Party

I managed to finally get the pentagonal Type 9 single tile and Unit drawn. The tile was very easy, I think I understand how to draw them now that I have had some practice. The Unit drawing are a different story because they are all different. What I learn doing one of them does not necessarily carry over when I try to do another.

leftpic This is one of Rex Beach's Alaska novels but not what I would call one of the 'he man' type. It is a melodrama along the lines of a girl tied to the railroad track. It does have some 'he man' stuff included but is certainly not in the same genre with Jack London. Only a couple of reviews and they were more of a story synopsis. These are simply light entertainment novels and should read as such.

The cloud cover yesterday was scattered and we managed to record another 100° high. This morning we have quite a bit more of a solid cover and the 97 forecast for the high today just might happen. High 90s then until next Sunday and Monday with even hotter days. I was hoping that September would bring some cooling but not yet.

I have had all I can stand with Weather Underground. They made some website changes that have left me with a VERY slow to open page with the 'spinning ball' using up crazy amounts of Verizon data. I liked Weather Underground mostly for their reporting stations and weather history but that is what they are now - history! Fast approaching the end of the month so I went to work on the Will Rogers weekly articles yesterday. Got that finished and then wasted a lot of the day trying to write the coding for a different way to present my pictures. I'll be back at that again today.

We had some strong winds last night soon after sundown but no rain was forthcoming. It blew all those clouds away that looked like they might be carrying some moisture but the forecast is for it to be cooler today without any cover. Yesterday the high was 95° and they are guessing that today will be 94 - I don't think so.

I have been slowly plowing my way through the book where I found this one timely quote. The author is an anthropology PHD and I think he wrote this book to impress his peers and to fulfill the "publish or perish" requirement at a professor level. The first third of the book is a summary of every previous explanation for society collapse and why they are all wrong. A lot of quotes from the authors of those prior theories. I have started another book of short stories by Rex Beach to give me a break from Tainter.

"Consider the situation of a hierarchy that must invest in legitimizing activities among a politically potent but minimally compliant segment of the population. Once this population segment has become accustomed to any pattern of increasing investment in legitimization, continuance of this trajectory is necessary to maintain the compliance status quo. Increased investment in legitimizing activities brings little or no increased compliance, and the marginal return on investment in legitimization correspondingly declines. The appeasement of urban mobs presents the classic illustration of this principle. Any level of activities undertaken to appease such populations - the bread and circuses syndrome - eventually becomes the expected minimum." - Joseph Tainter, The Collapse of Complex Societies

We had clouds blowing in again around noon yesterday but these did not look rain bearing. What do I know. The wind blew like crazy again near sundown and we got 0.08" of rain from those clouds. Not much lightning and thunder but about an hour after the storm blew through I lost electric power. Had a good visit with a neighbor that saw me out checking if it was me or "them". The entire Park was out.

It was left to Marjorie Rice (who died this past July 2, 2017) an amateur mathematician with only a high school education to find it as well as 3 others. The more of these that I draw I think I see that the difficulty in discovery is how to put together the primitive Unit.

In 2010, painter John McNaughton debuted a controversial painting that immediately drew the ire of Obama supporters and the applause of Obama detractors.

The Forgotten Man

But there’s a new president in office, and McNaughton has a new painting.

You Are Not Forgotten

Read the article Differences From Obama Administration by Ann. It was from it that I copied these pictures.
